Just like for music files, there is an icon in the in the compose window when you're creating your post. When you click the icon, it will ask you for a file, and give you options for wrapping the text (newspaper-style) around the image. I have no need for such fanciness, so I just choose no layout. It will also resize the image to something appropriate (choose small, medium, or large).
Also, note the "Labels for this post" box at the bottom of the compose window. This is for searching later, if you want to find all posts with a certain label. I have given this post some relevant labels.

Charlie, thanks for the info on posting pictures... that will be helpful in the future. I have named your musical cat Jacob. He is a very good cat.
