The title of this post is not accurate. The beginning of this blog is as any beginning is, frought with anticipation and anxiety, and some hidden hope that a force greater than our fragile selves will govern its fate.
However, "A naively optimistic beginning" doesn't quite have the right ring to it.

As I signed on, I realized I'd started a blog a long while back that ended up with only two posts: one about blogging itself and the other about the Masters tournament. Riveting stuff huh?
I like the group idea, and I'll jump onto the optimistic bandwagon and plan on taking part.
Part 1: Anna and I just got back from playing the Downs, and she has won the first match. In a fittingly understated show of sportsmanship, she opted for the handshake and avoided the touchdown dance or the Tiger Woods runaway fist pump. Classy.
This is my first blog attempt...unless you count my journal or "On the Sad, Brown, American Road". Thanks for setting this up, Chas. Mom and I are back from Nashville safe and sound. We arrived in Marquette around 2am Friday after leaving Nashville early Thursday morning. All is well.
Since it looks like we're all pretty new to blogging, I don't mind adding a bit. Charlie and I are recovering from yesterday - it started at 3:30am as a boarded a bus to Vancouver, WA, just across the river from Portland for our second regatta this season. It was a long, cold, rainy day. My two races were with our first women's eight (an eight-person boat), first for the DIII race and then an open race with DII and DIII boats. We beat all of the DIII schools in both races, and got second in the open race, about 10 seconds behind Western Washington (DII). They will be our major competition this season, which is really exciting because they have won nationals in their division for the last three years.
It's only a matter of weeks before graduation. I will be finishing a gender thesis, putting together my art show, and racing every weekend. They are all good things! Good to hear from you all.
Hey everybody. Good to hear about the regatta Betsy! Good luck for the rest of the season!
everything is going well in TC. Brian and I are out golfing in full force. This is the time of year I still love it.
I have been reading Dad's book and it is quite crazy... has anybody (other than Charlie) read it yet?
I have lots of questions on it, but I'm going to wait until the end to ask them because I think some will be answered if I just keep reading....
Happy April snow storm in the UP!!
